What is a Shear Connector?

A shear connector is a structural device that joins a concrete slab to a steel beam so they work together as a single composite unit

How It Works

Load division: The concrete slab handles the pushing forces (compression), while the steel beam handles the pulling forces (tension).

Preventing slip: When a beam bends under a heavy load, the concrete and steel try to slide past each other horizontally. Shear connectors lock the two materials together and stop this sliding.

Higher strength: Because the materials act as one unit, the entire structure is much stiffer and stronger without needing extra steel

Application List:

Construction & infrastructure

- Shear studs – welded through metal decking to lock steel beams and concrete slabs together in composite floor systems.
- Bridges – Securing expansion joints and heavy structural elements.

Transportation and Vehicles

- Automotive & Truck – securing wiring looms, brackets, cargo restraints and thermal shields.
- Rail & Aerospace – Assembling durable floor panels, frames and external components that can handle high vibration.

Manufacturing and Machinery:

- Control Panels & Cabinets: Mounting printed circuit boards (PCBs), ground clips, switches, and interior hardware.
- Enclosures: Attaching internal standoffs, hinges, and cover plates

Catering and Food Processing:

- Fastening pins and brackets to stainless steel tables, counters, and refrigerators without creating gaps or bacteria traps.

Insulation and HVAC:

- Welded pins and CD studs used to hold fire-proofing, duct insulation, and heating elements in place.

Cosmetic and Consumer Goods:

- Attaching invisible or hidden fasteners on elevator buttons, nameplates, designer metal furniture, and appliances
